LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The West Alabama baseball team will host its first home series of the season against Columbus State on Saturday, Feb. 5 – Sunday, Feb. 6 at Tartt Field. The three-game series will feature a doubleheader on Saturday with a noon first pitch and a single game on Sunday beginning at 1 p.m.
All games will be streamed live on the UWA Athletics YouTube page with live stats on the athletics website. SLY104.9 will broadcast the games with play-by-play by Mark Gilliam.
The Tigers (0-1) are coming off a tough season opener against Arkansas-Monticello. UWA fell 5-1 at Tartt Field while dealing with first competition struggles. Three different players recorded at least one hit. Houston Kitterman led the team with two, while Jake Nemith and Josh Bower recorded one each. Nemith took home the RBI, scoring Colden Peeples in West Alabama's lone run.
Seven Tigers took their turn on the mound for UWA. Peyton Warren was credited with the loss, entering the game in relief. He faced 12 batters in two innings for two hits against and two unearned runs. He delivered one strikeout.
This will be the season opener for Columbus State. The Cougars closed the 2021 season 31-16 and runner-ups in the Peach Belt Conference Championship Tournament. CSU returns Steven Miller, Isaac Bouton, and Robert Brooks, named to the preseason All-PBC team.
