A Strong Second Half Puts Tigers Over West Florida, 79-69

Box Score

PENSACOLA, Fla. – West Alabama had a dynamic second half inside the UWF Field House, overcoming a tied first half and three starters in foul trouble to defeat the Argos 79-69 Thursday night.

UWA struggled to stay ahead of West Florida in the first half of the game, but through the contributions of every Tiger that touched the court, West Alabama collected its third straight road victory.

Justin Allison tied his season-high of 19 points to lead the Tigers in scoring. The Pelham, Ala. hit back-to-back 3-pointers in the game's opening minutes to get the momentum going for West Alabama.

Kortrijk Miles recorded his eighth double-double in the action. The junior guard landed 18 points and brought down 11 boards.

Shardarrion Allen also had a great night. The Bolton, Miss. native was responsible for 12 points and four rebounds to round out the double-figure effort.

After closing the first half locked at 33, West Alabama (17-4, 10-3 Gulf South Conference) went on an 11-2 run to put some distance between it and the Argos. The Tigers went on to gain a lead of 14 (64-50) with 6:17 remaining in the game. Kavan Hill hit a 3-pointer, CJ Melton landed a dunk, Brice Martin brought in a layup, and Robert Davis and Allison added two each at the line in the scoring run.

West Florida (15-6, 9-5 GSC) would get within six, 75-69, but time was not on its side with only 35 seconds remaining.

Miles closed out the game, adding two free throws and a driving layup for a 79-69 final score.

Every single Tiger put points on the board against the Argos. Outside of the double-digit scorers, Calvin Finch had 7, Melton and Martin had 4 each, Hill put up 3, and Te Smith scored 2.

West Alabama will have one day off before returning to the court on Saturday, Feb. 5. The Tigers will travel to Valdosta, Ga., to take on Valdosta State. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m. CT/4 p.m. ET at The Complex.
