Tigers Push by UWF for 65-49 Victory

PENSACOLA, Fla. - West Alabama women's basketball team had four Tigers score in double figures to lead UWA to a 65-49 victory over West Florida Friday night at UWF Field House.

With the win, the Tigers improved to 13-6 overall and are now 7-4 in GSC play. The Argonauts dropped to 14-6 overall and are 8-5 in the conference.

Tazsa Garrett-Hammett, Bria Dent, Lauryn Lilly, and Jada Golden all scored in double figures. Garrett-Hammett scored 15 points with nine rebounds. Dent posted her tenth double-double, scoring 13 points and bringing down 11 boards. Lilly added 12 points, three rebounds, and two assists. Golden chipped in 10 points, four rebounds, and two assists. 

As a unit, the Tigers shot 49 percent (25-of-51) from the field, 42.1 percent (8-of-19) from beyond the arc, and 70 percent (6-of-10) from the free throw line. 

UWA had a big first quarter, out scoring West Florida 22-11. The Tigers shot 69.2 percent (9-of-13) from the field and 60 percent (3-of-5) from beyond the arc to gain a 11-point advantage over the Argonauts. 

In the second quarter, Justyna Butler drained a three-pointer to improve the Tigers lead 25-14. With 7:18 remaining, the Tigers went on an 8-3 run to improve the lead to 33-17. UWF responded by going on a 6-2 run to cut the Tigers lead to 35-24 before heading into halftime. 

The Tigers continued to stay ahead of the Argonauts in the third and fourth quarter to close out the game with a 65-49 victory over West Florida.

UWF forward Jaclyn Jarnot led the Argos offense with 14 points and nine rebounds.

UWA limited UWF to 31.5 percent (17-of-54) from the field, 23.8 percent (5-of-21) from the three-point line, and 58.5 percent (10-of-17) from the free throw line.

The Tigers head to Valdosta, Ga. on Saturday, Feb. 5 to take on Valdosta State. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. at The Complex.
