West Alabama Falls to Blazers Strong Second Half

VALDOSTA, Ga. - West Alabama women's basketball team took a 92-61 loss to Valdosta State on Saturday afternoon at The Complex. 

The Tigers dropped to 13-7 overall and 7-5 in Gulf South Conference play. Valdosta State improved to 17-5 overall and 12-2. 

Tazsa Garrett-Hammett led the Tigers with 30 points, four rebounds, and two blocks. Zoe Watts scored 15 points. Bria Dent added 13 points and nine rebounds.  

UWA shot 45.7 percent (21-of-46)  from the field and 75 percent (15-of-20)  from the free throw line.

In the first quarter, VSU outscored the UWA 22-15 to start off the game. Before heading into halftime Valdosta was up 41 compared to the Tigers 28 points. 

UWA had its best quarter in the third period, scoring 21 points, but the Blazers stayed ahead of the Tigers 68-49.

VSU had another big run in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Tigers 24-12 to take the 92-61 victory over the Tigers.

The Blazers shot 55.9 percent (33-of-59) from the field and 70.6 percent (12-of-17) from the free throw line.

The Tigers head to Rome, Ga. on Wednesday, Feb. 9 to take on Shorter. Tip-off is set for 4:30 p.m. at Winthrop-King Centre.
