Tiger Baseball to Host Argos in GSC Series

LIVINGSTON, Ala – West Alabama baseball returns to Gulf South Conference play by hosting No. 21 West Florida in a three-game series, with a single game being played Saturday at 1 p.m. and a doubleheader at noon Sunday.
 
West Alabama enters the series with a 5-15 overall record, 3-3 in conference play while the Argos are 11-6 and 8-1. 
 
Probable starting pitchers for the weekend series for UWA are Thomas Boothe (0-3, 3.86), Brenton Thiels (2-1 4.87), and Peyton Warren (1-4, 5.64). The trio have pitched 69.1 innings, given up 54 hits, 38 earned runs, while striking out 64 batters. 

Currently on a seven-game hit-streak, Josh Bower continues to be dominant at the plate for UWA with eight doubles, 13 runs batted in, and a .383 batting average.  Jake Nemith has reached base in all 20 games played this season, recorded 14 RBI, and a team-high 21 runs. Bower and Nemith each have 31 hits and two homers this season. 
 
At the plate for UWF, O'Shea Cullan has 16 runs batted in and has hit two homers. Trent Jeffcoat, who is the son of Argos' head coach Mike Jeffcoat, has a batting average of .391 and has 27 hits. 
 
West Florida's pitching staff includes three pitchers that have made five starts each. Ferro Salvatore (2-0, 4.03) has pitched 29 innings and has struck 20 batters out. Josh Pahlad (1-2, 2.86) has gotten through 30.1 innings and only given up 13 earned runs. Tyler Dowdy (3-1, 3.45) has pitched 31.1 innings and only given up 12 runs.
