Argos Handle Tigers in Series Opener

LIVINGSTON, Ala. –West Florida took advantage of 14 walks, two errors and five hit batsmen to down West Alabama 16-9 in Gulf South Conference baseball action on a windy Saturday afternoon at Tartt Field.
 
The GSC leading and 21st-ranked Argonauts are now 12-6 overall and 9-1 in league play. The Tigers, who outhit the visitors 16-9, fell to 5-16 and 3-4.
 
Josh Prizina collected three of West Florida's nine hits, including a solo homer, his second long ball of the season. Jadon Fryman had a two-run single in the third and a two-run double in the eighth for the Argonauts. 
 
Brayden Lyman had a solo homer in the first and a run scoring single in the third for the Tigers. The homer was Lyanm's second of the season.
 
Colden Peeples had three hits for UWA, including a two-run double in the eighth.  Jonathon Thibodeau had four hits for the Tigers while Braxton Bullard chipped in three hits and three RBI.
 
Starting pitcher Josh Pahlad (2-2) picked up the win for the Argonauts despite allowing nine hits and six earned runs in six innings of work. Tiger starter Thomas Boothe (0-4) was charged with the loss after allowing five earned runs on five hits in 2.1 innings pitched.
 
The same two teams will be in action again on Sunday afternoon with a noon doubleheader.
