UWA Heads to Christian Brothers for GSC Series

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – West Alabama baseball returns to Gulf South Conference play with a three-game series against Christian Brothers at Nadicksbernd Field with a doubleheader Saturday and a single game on Sunday. First pitch both days is scheduled for noon CDT.

West Alabama has won 21 of 24 games in the series, which dates back to 1985. The Tigers have won 19 of 21 since the Buccaneers joined the GSC.

The Tigers come into the series 6-18 overall, 4-5 in GSC play. Christian Brothers is 6-14 and 2-7.

After playing 19 of its first 24 games at home, West Alabama is 2-3 on the road this season and has lost seven of its last 10 games. The Bucs are 4-9 at home and have lost seven of their last eight games.

Probable UWA starting pitchers are Brenton Thiels (2-2, 5.13), Peyton Warren (2-4, 4.75) and Cade Miller (1-0, 9.72). Probable starters for CBU were not available.

Currently on an 11-game hit streak, outfielder Josh Bower leads the Tigers with a .392 batting average which is fifth best in the GSC. Bower has 38 hits, has scored 17 runs, driven in 15 and hit two home runs.

UWA third baseman Jake Nemith leads the team with four home runs and has reached base in all 24 games this season. Nemith and Brayden Lyman are tied for the team lead with 20 runs batted in. First baseman Gavin Rogers has hit three homers.

Van True leads the Buccaneer with a .358 batting average and has driven in 20 runs. Jarret Fowlkes has a team-high two homers and 26 hits.
