Tigers and Buccaneers Split Doubleheader

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – West Alabama split Saturday's Gulf South Conference doubleheader against Christian Brothers at Nadicksbernd Field, losing the first game, 9-8, and winning the second game, 5-1, despite only getting two hits.

West Alabama moves to 7-19 overall, 5-6 in Gulf South Conference play while Christian Brothers is 7-15 and 3-8.

"In the first game I was disappointed with how we closed the game but, I was pleased with the way our guys bounced back in game two," UWA head coach Gary Rundles said. "Peyton (Warren) set the tone in game two and I was proud of Gates (Pee) for coming in and getting the save."

Warren (3-4) got the win in game two and Gates Pee picked up his first save of the season. Sam Brumbaugh (1-4) took the loss. Hayden Smith (1-0) got the win for CBU in the opener and Mason Hollander (1-2) was charged with the loss in relief when Josh Bledsoe hit a batter with the bases loaded to allow the tying run before issuing a walk-off base on balls for the CBU game-winner.

Warren pitched six innings and gave up four hits, one earned run, and struck out 10. Pee came in the seventh inning with the bases loaded and was able to get a game-saving strike-out for the save.

The Tigers pitching staff struck out 19 CBU batters. The CBU pitching staff collected 13 strikeouts and walked nine Tiger batters.
