CBU Takes Series Win Over Tigers

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Christian Brothers put up 10 runs in the fourth and fifth innings on the way to an 11-9 Gulf South Conference victory over West Alabama Sunday at Nadicksbernd Field.

Following a doubleheader split on Saturday, the win clinched the series for the Bucs, improving CBU to 8-15 overall, 4-8 in GSC play. The Tigers fall to 7-20 overall and 5-7.

CBU starter Garrett Dooley (2-2) picked up the pitching win, despite allowing seven earned runs in six hits. Cade Miller (1-1) was charged with the loss, working 3.1 innings and giving up seven hits and five runs, three unearned.

UWA collected nine hits against four Christian Brothers pitchers, including home runs from Josh Bower and Jake Nemith. Bower, Nemith and Colden Peeples had two hits apiece. Nemith and Peeples each drove in three runs.

The Buccaneers scored five unearned runs in the fourth inning to jump out to an 8-2 lead. The Tigers came back to within a run on Nemith's three-run blast, his fifth of the season. Bower's third homer of the season was as solo shot in the fourth inning.

A modest two-run rally on three hits by the Tigers in the ninth came up short when Houston Kitterman grounded out to third base with two runners on to end the game.

Jarret Fowlkes collected three hits for CBU. Antonio Fernandez drove in three, while Fowlkes and Mathew McDaniel had two RBI each.

The Tigers return to action at Spring Hill on Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Historic Stan Galle Field in Mobile, Ala.
