Women Finish Third, Men Place Seventh at EMCC Rodeo

MERIDIAN, Miss. – West Alabama rodeo competed in the East Mississippi Community College Rodeo at the Lauderdale County Agri-Center with the women finishing in third place and the men placing seventh.

The women scored 205 points and the men tallied 90.

Rebecca St. Martin placed first in the barrel racing competition. Breakaway roping was won by Bethany Stallons. Heather McLaughlin placed fifth place in goat tying.

"We dominated in some areas but didn't have the strongest finish in other places. I felt like our ladies were focused and prepared. We must work hard this week at practice and keep our foot on the pedal," head rodeo coach Daniel Poole said.

Tyler Lovering placed sixth in calf roping. JT Ellison finished in seventh in steer wrestling.

"Our men's team had too many costly mistakes and we could not seem to make things happen. It is crucial we do everything we can this week at practice to not let it happen again," Poole said.

Rodeo returns to action at the Pearl River Community College Rodeo Thursday through Saturday in Poplarville, Miss.
