LIVINGSTON, Ala. – After falling behind by seven runs, a mid-to-late inning comeback by West Alabama came up just short as the Tigers lost to Tuskegee, 9-8, Wednesday at Tartt Field.
UWA fell to 5-15 on the season while Tuskegee improved to 7-7 overall. The Tigers continue a five-game homestand by hosting Gulf South Conference rival West Florida in a three-game series Saturday and Sunday.
Tuskegee opened the game by scoring four runs in the top of the first inning and jumped to a 9-2 lead heading into the bottom of the fifth. UWA rallied to put up six runs to cut the score to the final margin after eight innings.
West Alabama starter Tyler Benson (1-3) took the loss for UWA before giving way to three relievers after allowing five runs, three earned, in the first two innings. Benson, Davis Ferguson, Gates Pee and Josh Bledsoe combined to strike out 13 and walk just two. Just five of Tuskegee's nine runs were earned.
Devon Shaw (1-0) earned the win for Tuskegee, pitching five innings and allowing three hits while striking out two and walking four. Tyler Baker worked the final two innings for his first save.
Jake Nemith lead the UWA offense with two hits, extending his hitting streak to eight games. Kyle Vogler and Josh Bower each drove in a pair of runs, with Bower hitting his second home run of the season, a two-run shot in the seventh inning.
