Tigers Handle Warhawks in Game One of GSC Series

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – West Alabama's bats were active Friday evening, collecting 17 hits and scoring 14 runs in the fifth and sixth inning in a 16-3 win over Auburn-Montgomery at the AUM Baseball Complex in game one of the Gulf South Conference series.

The two teams will return to the diamond on Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. Will Atkinson will be back on SLY 104.9 with the call.

"Gavin (Rogers) went out and threw strikes. He challenged the hitters and was able to move the ball in and out all night," UWA coach Gary Rundles said. "Offensively we capitalized off their mistakes and had quality at-bats. I was very pleased with our performance.

The Tigers improved to 9-23 overall and 7-9 in GSC action and the Warhawks fell to 18-14 and 8-8.

Gavin Rogers (2-1) picked up the pitching win with his second consecutive complete game. He allowed seven hits, three runs, two earned runs, and struck out four batters.  Jax Morris (1-2) absorbed the loss for Warhawks giving up six runs on nine hits while pitching 4.1 innings.

Brayden Lyman led the Tigers with four RBI on four hits, including his fourth and fifth homers of the season. Rogers also drove in four runs on three hits, including his fourth home run.

Colden Peeples and Josh Bower chipped in three hits each. Peeples drove in two runs and stole his 14th base of the season.
