Late Rally Pushes Tigers Over Crusaders

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – West Alabama trailed by five runs entering the sixth inning and rallied to score seven runs in the final three frames to defeat William Carey 7-5 Tuesday afternoon at Tartt Field. 
 
West Alabama moves to 12-26 overall and the Crusaders fall to 23-15. 
 
The Tigers rallied in the eighth inning when Josh Bower got his second hit of the game, a double to centerfield and Jake Nemith scored and Gavin Rogers scored on a fielding error to put the Tigers down a run.  
 
Jonathan Thibodeau came in to pinch hit and singled to right field to score Bower and tie the game. Following a fly out and Sam Smith getting on base with a walk, Kyle Vogler hit his third single of the game and scored Braxton Bullard, who was pinch running for Thibodeau, and Sam Smith to give the Tigers the lead. 
 
As a unit, UWA finished with 13 hits, got on base with two walks, and stranded seven runners on base. 
 
The Tigers pitched nine different players in the game with Gates Pee (1-2) getting the win. Pee pitched one complete inning giving up a hit and walking one batter. Collectively the Tiger pitching staff gave up six hits, four earned runs, walked 13 batters, and struck seven batters out. Brenton Thiels came in the ninth inning and earned his first save of the season. 
 
William Carey's Caleb Laird and Jake Lycette combined for three hits and knocked four runs in. Laird had a solo homerun. William Carey left 15 runners on base. 
 
John Snyder (3-3) took the loss pitching 0.1 innings and giving up three earned runs and one unearned run on four hits. Dario Herrer and Connor Adams pitched seven complete innings and gave up two runs on eight hits.
 
West Alabama returns to action on Friday in game one of a Gulf South Conference series at Union with the first pitch scheduled for 6 p.m.
