Tigers Drop Game One Against Union

JACKSON, Tenn. – West Alabama baseball dropped game one of the Gulf South Conference series 4-2 at Fesmire Baseball Field, Friday evening at Union. 
 
West Alabama falls to 12-27 overall and 9-13 in GSC action. Union improves to 15-20 and 8-13. 
 
West Alabama's Mason Hollander (1-3) took the loss and gave up 10 hits, four earned runs, and struck eight batters out while working seven complete innings. Josh Bledsoe pitched the final inning and struck one of the four batters he faced out. 
 
Luke Williamson (4-3) got the win pitching seven complete innings and gave up six hits, two earned runs, struck six out, and walked four batters. Dylan Thomas and Jack Rasmussen worked the final two frames. Thomas gave up one hit and Rasmussen earned his first save of the year. 
 
Brayden Lyman collected two hits in the game including a single to right field that scored Kyle Vogler in the first inning. Union's Britt Netterville hit a solo homerun in the bottom of the first to tie the game. In the third inning, Josh Bozoian hit a two-run shot to give the Bulldogs a two-run lead. 
 
Gavin Rogers had a sacrifice fly that scored Lyman to bring the Tigers within one run in the sixth. Union added an insurance run in the eighth when Grayson Swanson scored the final run of the game. 
 
UWA had seven hits as a team, walked four times, and left nine on base. Vogler has now reached base in 11 straight games. 
 
Ben Smith and Britt Netterville each had a run batted in for the Bulldogs. Blake Barrett, Bozoian, and Netterville collected seven of the 10 Union hits. 
 
The two teams return to Fesmire Baseball Field on Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. The game will be broadcasted live on SLY 104.9 with play-by-play from Mark Gilliam
