Baseball Drops Series at Union

JACKSON, Tenn. – West Alabama baseball came up on the short end of a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at the Fesmire Baseball Field losing the first game 15-12 and the second game 7-8 against Union in a Gulf South Conference series. 
 
West Alabama falls to 12-29 overall and 9-15 in the GSC, Union moves to 17-20 and 10-13. 
 
Peyton Warren (3-6) took the loss on the mound for West Alabama in game one. Warren started game one and went five innings giving up 10 total runs, eight earned runs, eight hits and struck four batters out. Cade Miller, Mateo Lozano, and Brenton Thiels worked the final three frames and gave up five earned runs collectively. 
 
Gavin Rogers started game two on the mound and worked 5.1 innings and gave up 11 hits, seven runs with six being earned, and struck two batters out. Josh Bledsoe (0-1) came in for relief and took the loss giving up the lead in the sixth inning. 
 
Sam Poindexter (4-2) earned the win in game one going two innings giving up seven total runs and six earned runs. Ryan Middleton (1-0) received his first win of the year in game two working the final two frames giving up no hits and striking two batters out. Union's pitchers collected eight strikeouts and walked six Tigers. 
 
West Alabama collected 23 hits on the day. Jake Nemith had five total hits, tallied five runs batted in, and scored five times. Rogers had eight runs batted in during both games with seven coming in game one and his fifth homerun. Colden Peeples added four hits on the day and came across the plate five times. 
 
Union's bats were led by Josh Bozoian who collected four hits, six runs batted in, and two homeruns. Blake Barrett hit a homerun in game one and drove in four runs. Brett Netterville had five hits on the day. The Bulldogs collected 26 hits during the twin-bill. 
 
The Tigers will hit the road on Tuesday to play at William Carey before returning home on April 23rd-24th for a Gulf South Conference series against Delta State.
