Baseball Falls at William Carey

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – West Alabama baseball was defeated by William Carey in a midweek nonconference game at Milton Wheeler Field Tuesday night by a final score 12-7. 
 
The Tigers fall to 12-30 overall and the Crusaders improve to 27-15. 
 
Gates Pee (1-3) absorbed the loss while pitching 1.2 innings and giving up three earned runs on five hits and walked one batter. Thomas Boothe started and went 2.1 innings and did not give up a hit or run. The Tiger pitching staff collectively gave up 12 earned runs on 12 hits and walked 12 batters while pitching seven different players. 
 
John Snyder (4-3) earned the win for the Crusaders working three complete innings and giving up four hits, one earned run, and struck four batters out. Connor Adams started the game and went five innings and allowed six runs on seven hits and struck four batters out. AJ Stinson closed the game pitching the final frame and struck two of the four batters he faced out. 
 
The Tiger bats were led by outfielder Brayden Lyman and Kyle Vogler, the duo collected five total hits in the game. Josh Bower recorded his 58th and 59th hit of the season and added knocked in two runs. UWA collected 12 total hits, seven runs batted in, and left 10 runners on base. 
 
Colden Peeples and Kyle Vogler each stole two bases and Vogler reached base for his 14thconsecutive time. 
 
The Tigers led 6-1 entering the sixth inning before William Carey plated five runs in the fifth frame to tie the game. William Carey added three runs in the sixth and eighth inning to win the ball game. 
 
William Carey's Chris Williams scored three times and had three runs batted in on three hits. Williams also reached safely with a walk. Magruder O"Bannon had three runs batted in along with two hits and got on base with three walks. William Carey collected 12 total hits, 11 runs batted in, and left nine on base. 
 
West Alabama returns to Tartt Field on Saturday and Sunday against Delta State in a three game Gulf South Conference series with the doubleheader beginning Saturday at 2 p.m. and the single game Sunday at 1 p.m.
