UWA Takes Two Against Delta State

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – West Alabama baseball took both games of the twinbill against Delta State on Saturday at Tartt Field by final scores of 3-2 and 8-1 in the Gulf South Conference series. 
 
West Alabama improves to 14-30 overall and 11-15 in GSC play while the Statesmen fall to 25-13 and 16-7. 
 
"I am pleased with how Peyton (Warren) and Gavin (Rogers) came out and set the tone for us on the mound. Offensively, we took advantage when we had guys in scoring position most of the day. I am extremely proud of the way we responded after a tough week," head baseball coach Gary Rundles said. 
 
West Alabama goes for the sweep on Sunday at 1 p.m. in the final GSC home game at Tartt Field in 2022. 
 
Peyton Warren (4-8) worked 8.1 innings and allowed just four hits, two earned runs, and struck four batters out to earn the win in game one. Brenton Thiels pitched the final 0.2 innings striking out one of the three batters he faced while earning his second save. 
 
Gavin Rogers (4-1) went the distance in game two pitching 7.0 innings and only allowed one earned run, four hits, and struck five batters out. Rogers did not allow any base-on-balls. 
 
Delta State's Harrison Haley (8-1) took his first loss of the year in game one and worked seven innings allowing three earned runs, striking two batters out, and walking one. Trace Mcnabb worked the final frame for the Statesmen. 
 
Landon Zizmann (7-2) took the loss in game two allowing six runs, four earned runs, and gave up three hits while pitching 2.2 innings. Cooper Brune and Evan Bynum worked the final 3.1 innings, Brune gave up three hits and two earned runs, and Bynum did not allow any hits or runs in the final two frames.
 
Jake Nemith had three hits on the day including a solo-home run in in the sixth inning which gave the Tigers its third and final run of game one. Jonathan Thibodeau and Josh Bower each had a run batted in during the contest. 
 
In game two, Bower hit a two-run homer and scored Rogers. Rogers had two hits, a run batted in, and crossed home plate twice. Kyle Vogler reached base in both games to extend his streak of reaching base to 16 games. The Tigers had 14 hits combined during the doubleheader. 
 
Delta State had eight hits on the day, including a two-run shot from Kirkland Trahan in game one. Gabe Stockton had the only other run batted in for the Statesmen and it came in game two. 
 
Sunday's game will be broadcasted on SLY 104.9 with Will Atkinson returning to play-by-play duties, along with a live stream available.
