Baseball to Host Delta State in Final GSC Series at Tartt Field

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – West Alabama baseball will welcome Delta State in a three-game Gulf South Conference series on Saturday and Sunday at Tartt Field.
 
The two teams will open the series on Saturday with a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. with Senior Day festivities happening after game one. The series will close on Sunday, with the first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
 
The Tigers enter the weekend series with a 12-30 overall record and an 8-15 record in GSC play. Delta State brings in a 25-11 overall record and a conference best 16-5 record.
 
Saturday is Autism Awareness Day at Tartt Field and Hudson Chambless will be throwing the first pitch at 1:45 p.m. Hudson is the 8-year-old son of former UWA pitcher, Clint Chambless, his wife Sunny, and mother and stepfather, Stephanie & Luke Hendrie. He was diagnosed with autism at the age of 2 and currently attends Huntington Elementary in Northport, Ala.
 
Josh Bower leads the UWA bats with a batting average of .369, 59 hits, seven home runs, and 33 runs batted in. The junior has recorded 15 doubles and walked 13 times.
 
Third baseman Jake Nemith has 167 at-bats, 58 hits, knocked in 38 runs, and 6 six homers. Outfielder Colden Peeples has stolen 18 bases, which is good for third in the GSC.
 
Mason Hollander, Gavin Rogers, and Peyton Warren are expected to start on the mound during the series. The trio of pitchers will all be part of the senior class that will be honored and they have collectively pitched 129.1 innings this season and have an earned run average of 4.32.
 
The Statesmen are led by Carson Clowers who has a batting average of .421 which is first in the GSC, Clowers has 48 hits, 10 doubles, and has 26 runs batted in. Jake Barlow has 45 hits, 12 doubles and 12 home runs.
 
Delta State has not announced a starting rotation for the series.
 
The entire series will be have live stream and be broadcasted on SLY 104.9 with Will Atkinson handling the play-by-play. Live stats will be offered and the first pitch thrown by Hudson Chambless and Senior Day festivities can be seen on the live stream.
