Tigers Drop Game Three Against Delta State

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – West Alabama baseball came up on the short end against Delta State 5-2 Sunday afternoon in game three of the Gulf South Conference series at Tartt Field. 
 
After winning two of three games against Delta State, the Tigers move to 14-31 overall and 11-16 in GSC play and the Statesmen are now 26-13 and 17-7. 
 
Mason Hollander (2-4) took the loss on the mound for West Alabama, working seven innings and giving up six hits, three earned runs, struck nine batters out, and walked one batter. Brenton Thiels pitched 1.1 innings and allowed two earned runs on two hits and one walk. Josh Bledsoe pitched the final 0.2 innings and did not allow any runs or hits. The Tiger pitching staff collected 12 strikeouts on the day. 
 
Delta State's Trace McNabb (2-0) earned the win in relief for Hammer Franks. Both pitched 4.0 innings, Franks allowed two earned runs on four hits and walked four batters. McNabb did not give up any runs or hits and struck four batters out. Steven Lacey pitched the final frame to earn his second save of the seaon. 
 
The Tigers scored their only two runs of the game in the first inning with Brayden Lyman hitting a double and scored Colden Peeples and Josh Bower singles and scored Lyman. No Tiger had more than one hit on the day as UWA tallied four hits and left three on the pads. 
 
Delta State's Kirkland Trahan hit a solo home run in the second inning and the score was 2-1 until the eighth inning when Blayke Dendy hit a three-run homer to right field, to put the Statesmen on top 4-2. A sacrifice fly in the ninth from Jake Barlow scored Chad Ragland for the final run of the game. Dendy and Trahan collectively had four of the eight hits for Delta State.
 
West Alabama will return to Tartt Field for the final home game of the regular season on Wednesday at 2 p.m. as they take on Miles College in a nonconference game.
