Tigers Split Doubleheader to Take Series Against Montevallo

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – West Alabama and Montevallo split the twin-bill at Tartt Field on Saturday afternoon, with the Tigers taking game one 11-7 and the Falcons bouncing back to win game two 5-1 of the Gulf South Conference matchups.
 
With the series win, West Alabama moves to 11-26 overall and 9-12 in GSC competition. The Falcons are now 27-10 and 12-8. 
 
Gavin Rogers (3-1) got the win in game one, going 7.0 innings and allowing four earned runs, seven hits, and struck eight of the 28 batters he faced out. Gates Pee and Mateo Lozano worked one inning each, Pee gave up two earned runs and Lozano struck one batter out. Thomas Boothe gave up one earned run in relief. 
 
JJ Pease (4-3) took the loss for the Falcons, pitching 1.2 innings and allowing four earned runs on seven hits.  The Falcons threw six different pitchers in relief and collectively pitched 4.7 innings and allowed seven runs on five hits and seven walks. 
 
In game one, Colden Peeples collected three hits, scored twice, and had one run batted in. Gavin Rogers had one hit and drove in three runs. Brayden Lyman had one hit, batted in two runs, and scored twice. Josh Bower had two hits and one RBI. As a unit the Tigers had 12 hits, eight base-on-balls, and left 13 runners on base.  

Montevallo's Reed Latimer, Sam Kuchinski, and Asa Awbrey each had a solo homerun. The trio had six of the 11 hits and drove in six of the seven runs. 
 
West Alabama's Peyton Warren (3-7) absorbed the loss in game two, working 4.1 innings and allowing four earned runs on six hits, walked two, and struck four out. Austin Goode came in to pitch the final 2.2 innings and gave up one earned run on two hits. Goode picked up two strikeouts. 
 
Griffin Lape (2-0) got the win for the Falcons in relief for starter Logan Samuels who walked five Tigers. The duo pitched 6 innings and allowed just one hit and struck 11 batters out. Danny Glenos got his fourth save of the season. 
 
Jake Nemith and Braxton Bullard recorded the only hits for the Tigers in game two. Nemith had one run batted in off a sacrifice fly that scored Houston Kitterman. The Tigers got on with seven walks. 
 
Kuchinski hit a two-run homerun in the first inning for Montevallo. The homer was his only hit of the game. Latimer and Matt Simon each added a run batted in. 
 
The Tigers will return to Tartt Field on Tuesday in a nonconference game against William Carey at 4 p.m.
