Bower and Lyman Named to ABCA/Rawlings All-Region Team

GREENSBORO, N.C. – West Alabama designated hitter Josh Bower and outfielder Brayden Lyman have been named to the 2022 American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings NCAA Division II South All-Region Team. Both Lyman and Bower are second team selections. 

The ABCA, founded in 1945, is the primary professional organization for baseball coaches at the amateur level. Its over 13,000 members represent all 50 states and 25 countries. Since its initial meeting of 27 college baseball coaches in June 1945, Association membership has broadened to include eight divisions: NCAA Division I, II and III, NAIA, NJCAA, Pacific Association Division, High School and Youth.

The teams are voted on by members of the ABCA and the process is led by the ABCA NCAA Division II All-America Committee.

Bower led the team with a batting average of .370. The Headland, Alabama native had 68 hits, 12 doubles, and 10 homers while primarily being the designated hitter. Bower started in all 49 games, scored 40 runs, and batted in 46 runs. The junior hitter had 19 multi-hit games, a hitting streak of 12 games, and a 15 game streak of reaching base during the season.

This is Bower's third postseason honor. He was also named to the 2022 National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Division II All-South Region Second Team and named Second Team All-GSC. 

Lyman batted .354 on the season while recording 63 hits, six home runs, two triples, and 12 doubles in 48 games. The Land O' Lakes, Florida native batted in 47 runs, stole 12 bases, and crossed home plate 45 times. Lyman had 20 multi-hit games, 13 games with more than one run batted in, and ended the season on a streak of reaching base in the final 12 games. 

This is Lyman's second postseason honor. The graduate senior outfielder was also named Second Team All-GSC. 

Bobby Sparling of Saint Leo was named the ABCA/Rawlings South Region Position Player of the Year, while Rollins pitcher Jaylyn Whitehead earned region Pitcher of the Year honors.
