Volleyball Drops Two Matches in Opening Tournament

FRANKFORT, Ky. - West Alabama volleyball opened the 2022 season Friday afternoon as the Tigers faced Kentucky State and Ohio Dominican on the first day of the KSU Tournament inside Bell Gymnasium. 

UWA fell  3-0  to Kentucky State in the first match of the day (25-20, 25-15, 20-19). Ohio Dominican swept UWA 3-0 in the nightcap (25-22, 25-18, 25-19).

Ally Craig tallied 12 kills in the first match, while Madison Fisher finished with nine kills. Setter Maddie Van Dyke posted 28 assists and five digs. 
 
On the defensive side, Nathalia Medeiros led the Tigers with six digs. Craig collected five, while MacKenzie Wells and Amelia Johnigan had four.
 
As a unit, Kentucky State hit .391. Shaska Davis led the team with 14 kills. KSU had 42 digs, while Amaya Johnson tallied 13 digs for the Thorobreds.

UWA vs. Ohio Dominican (0-3)
Fisher led the Tigers with eight kills, hitting .333 in the second match of the tournament. Fisher also had seven digs. Craig tallied six kills and eight digs. Medeiros added five kills and six digs. 
 
Wells led the squad defensively with 17 digs. Chyna Dixon turned in 16 assists in the three-set match. 
 
Olivia Kirksey led the Panthers with nine kills and Lauren Lucas with seven. Alexis Keipert tallied 12 digs in the match.

The Tigers return to the court Saturday to close out the four-match tournament. UWA takes on Edinboro University of Pennsylvania at 8 a.m., followed by Maryville at 2 p.m.
