Medeiros Shines as Tigers Close Out KSU Tournament

FRANKFORT, Ky. - The West Alabama volleyball team closed out the four-match tournament with two losses against Edinboro and Maryville Saturday afternoon inside Bell Gymnasium.

In Saturday's first match, the Tigers took a 25-19, 25-22, 25-21 defeat from Edinboro. UWA posted 38 kills compared to Edinboro's 35 kills, but it was not enough as the Fighting Scots claimed the 3-0 victory over the Tigers.  

Nathalia Medeiros led the Tigers with 10 kills, hitting .300. Ally Craig and Chyna Dixon added nine kills. Dixon hit .333 in the match. Amelia Johnigan tallied eight kills, hitting .412. Maddie Van Dyke was credited with 29 assists. Craig led the team in aces with two, while Medeiros and MacKenzie Wells each added one. 

On the defensive side, the Tigers had 39 digs. Wells led the team in digs with 12. Medeiros posted nine digs, and Craig added eight. 

Sally Sterkel led the Fighting Scots hitters with nine kills, hitting 692. Edinboro posted 47 digs. Carly Pry led the team with 21.

Medeiros continued to lead the Tigers with seven kills in the 25-17, 25-19, 25-11 loss to Maryville in the last match of the day. Dixon was credited with 14 assists and six digs. Wells tallied a team-leading seven digs and four aces. Van Dyke and Madison Fisher each had five. 

Maryville's outside hitters Ella Brinkmann and Grace Graham each had 10 kills. Brinkmann also led the team in digs with 10. The team collectively had 45 digs. Setter Abbie Schnell posted 23 assists. 

Box Score 

Craig led UWA attackers this weekend with 27 kills over three matches. Medeiros had 25 kills over four matches, while Fisher tallied 21. 

Wells completed the weekend with 40 digs. She added 10 aces and six aces. Van Dyke was credited with 61 assists over the tournament. Dixon notched 30 assists.

The Tigers head to Newberry, S.C. to compete at the Newberry Tournament on Friday. UWA will open the four-match tournament against Southern Wesleyan. First serve is set for 10 a.m., followed by a 4:30 p.m. match against Lees Mcrae College.
