UWA Men's Soccer Earns First Win of the Season Over UAH

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – Shane Pettit kicked from the corner in the 84th minute and found the back of the net to lift West Alabama over Alabama Huntsville 1-0 in a Gulf South Conference match on Friday at Tiger Stadium. 
 
"That was a great win for us against an in-state rival and our boys never gave up from start to finish," head men's soccer coach Ross Nelson said. "We got three points on the board and another clean sheet." 
 
The Tigers earn their first win of the season and improve to 1-2-3 overall and 1-0-2 in GSC play. The Chargers drop to 0-6-1 and 0-3. 
 
West Alabama's goalkeeper Harry Deveney had his third shutout in a row and had three saves. Deveney now has 16 saves on the season. 

Deveney earned a save in the 85th minute as UAH's Harvey Hewson took the final shot of the game for the Chargers. 
 
Harry Colville had two shots-on-goal and Adrian Evrard had one shot on target. West Alabama collectively took 15 shots. 
 
UAH took 10 shots and three were on frame. Alabama Huntsville's goalkeeper Robert Bailey had three saves during the match. 
 
Both teams combined for 32 fouls and each squad had 16. Three cards were handed out during the match with two going to UWA and the other to UAH.

West Alabama will hit the road on Sept. 23 in a GSC matchup at Delta State. The Chargers will play at Mississippi College on Sept. 23.
