Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Takes Down Delta State

CLEVELAND, Miss. The University of West Alabama men's soccer team picked up a 3-0 win over Delta State University on Friday afternoon in Gulf South Conference play at Delta Field.

The Tigers improve to 2-2-3 overall and 2-0-2 in GSC action. Delta State drops to 2-3-3 and 1-2-2.

"All the credit has to go to the players today," UWA head coach Ross Nelson said. "They where immense from start to finish, and fully deserved the win. Delta state is historically a very difficult place to come, so to come here and score three goals plus get another clean sheet is obviously a massive positive!"

"We have another tough test away at Mississippi College on Sunday, and we have to be at our best," Nelson added. "So for now we will focus on maximizing our recovery and we will go again!"

Killian Griffin got things going for the Tigers in the fifth minute when he found the back of the net.

Patrick Sacher scored the remaining two goals in the 29th and 42nd minute. The goal in the 29th minute was unassisted. Richard Lopez delivered the assist to Sacher to give UWA their final goal of the game.

All five of West Alabama's shots were on frame. Delta State took three shots in the game, and one was on target. Delta State's Andrej Markesic took the only shot-on-goal.

Harry Deveney was in the back of the net for the Tigers and earned one save. Delta State's goalkeeper Hayden Flynn earned two saves. Both keepers played 90 minutes.

West Alabama had 21 fouls in the match and Delta State had six. Five yellow cards were issued out during the game.

West Alabama will stay in the state of Mississippi as they take on Mississippi College on Sunday at 3:30 in Gulf South Conference play.
