West Alabama couldn't have asked for a better start ripping off the first five points of the match. Still holding the 6-2 lead, Montevallo (10-4, 2-0 GSC) went on a 7-0 run to open the 9-6 advantage.
UWA didn't go away quietly. Trailing 18-10, the Tigers went on a 6-0 run to get back into the opening set. Right after that spurt, the Falcons scored the final seven points of the set to take the first set, 25-16.
Montevallo jumped out to the 10-3 lead to start the second set. Blocks by Craig, Johnigan and Dixon helped trim the deficit to five. Despite points down the stretch from Fisher and Craig, it was too much Falcons as they tallied 14 kills in the set to take the second, 25-14.
The Falcons carried that momentum into the third set scoring the first five points. Dixon posted the first points of the set for UWA on a kill and then teamed with Johnigan for a block. Fisher added a kill and then a service ace by Maddie Van Dyke had the Tigers to within three at 7-4. A Johnigan service ace and a ball handling error had UWA as close as they would get the rest of the way at 12-8. Montevallo finished the set on a 13-3 run for the 25-11 third set win and 3-0 match victory.
Macy Martin led the Falcons with 12 kills. Sav Roys had 21 assists. Casey Hendrixson posted 18 digs and Morgan Hoffman added four blocks.
