Medeiros Posted Eight Kills in the Setback to #12 West Florida

LIVINGSTON, Ala. - West Alabama volleyball team fell to No. 12 West Florida in a Gulf South Conference match Friday evening inside Pruitt Hall Gymnasium. 

The Tigers dropped to 5-12 overall and are now 0-5 in GSC play. The Argos moved to 12-3 on the season and are now 4-0 in the conference.

Nathalia Medeiros led the Tigers with eight kills. Chyna Dixon dished out 12 assists. MacKenzie Wells collected 12 digs. Maddie Van Dyke posted 10 digs, seven assists, and spun in two service aces. 

Tied 5-5 in the first set, the Argos made an 8-2 run to take the lead to 13-7. A kill from Fisher broke the run to trim the lead to 13-8. UWF scored the final 12 points of the set to claim set one, 25-14.

Set two was a back-and-forth battle. Tied at 6-6, the Tigers improved the lead to 8-6 off a kill from Johanna Martin and a block from Martin and Dixon. UWF made a comeback and tied the set up at 11-all. A kill from Medeiros, a UWF attack error, and a service ace from Van Dyke allowed the Tigers to gain the three-point advantage, 14-11. 

The Argos answered with a 7-1 run to take the 18-15 lead. The Tigers scored the next four points to cut UWF's lead to 20-19. West Florida claimed the final five points to close set two out with a 25-20 win. 

UWF jumped to a 7-2 lead to start the third set. The Argos closed out the set by going on two big runs to take the third set, 25-11, and claim the 3-0 victory over the Tigers.

Avery Rodgers led the Argos with 10 kills. Ana Oro posted a match-high of 19 digs. Taylor Vaneekeren had 29 assists. 

UWF held the edge in kills (40-22), aces (7-2), blocks (5-2), assists (37-22), and digs (60-43). 

UWA travels to Memphis, Tennessee on Thursday to take on Christian Brothers in a GSC match. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
