Men's Hoops Defeats Lee University, 74-63

CLEVELAND, Tenn. - West Alabama men's basketball team defeated Lee University 74-63 and handed the Flames their first loss of the season at home Thursday evening inside Paul Dana Walker Arena.
 
The Tigers improved to 16-4 overall and are 12-4 in GSC play. The Flames dropped to 13-4 overall and are 12-4 in the conference. With the win, UWA moves into the number one spot in the GSC standings. 
 
Justin Allison posted a season-high of 22 points. He also had three steals and two rebounds. Terry Durham posted a double-double, scoring 14 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. 
 
Kuran Garner and Shardarrion Allen each contributed 13 points. Garner pulled down six boards. Thaddeus Williams and CJ Melton both had six points and three rebounds. 
 
UWA shot 50 percent from the field and 85.7 percent from the foul line. 
 
The Tigers started strong, making three of their first four shots of the game. UWA hit a pair of back-to-back jumpers at the 16:21 mark, bringing the score to 10-6. The Tigers went on a 9-4 run to extend the lead to 19-10 with 10:46 remaining in the first half. The Flames responded with an 8-0 run before Allison broke it with a three-pointer. The Tigers and Flames battled out the last six minutes of the half, with the Tigers taking the lead 31-28. 
 
Lee went on a 10-4 to open the second half, allowing them to lead for the first time in the game, 38-35. Both teams went back and forth with four lead changes over four minutes of play. At the 8:44 mark, the Tigers went on a 6-0 run, taking back the lead, 53-49. 
 
With 3:09 remaining, Lee was called for an intentional foul, allowing Allison to shoot and make both free throws. The Tigers extended the lead to 66-58 when Garner also made his three foul shots. The Tigers scored eight more points in the matchup to claim the 74-63 victory over Lee.
 
Lee shot 41.7 percent from the floor, 27.8 percent from the three-point range, and 57.1 percent from the foul line. PJay Smith led the Flames with 18 points. 
 
The Tigers take on Shorter University on Saturday at 3 p.m. CT inside Winthrop-King Centre in Rome, Georgia.
