Tigers Take Down No. 21 Lee University in Big Road Victory

CLEVELAND, Tenn. - Down 36-27 at the half, West Alabama women's basketball team made a comeback to defeat No. 21 Lee University 71-66 Thursday evening inside Paul Dana Walker Arena.
 
The Tigers improved to 10-10 overall and are 7-9 in GSC play. The Flames dropped to 16-4 and are 14-2 in the conference. With the loss, Lee is tied for first place in GSC standings with Valdosta State.
 
Bria Dent had strong performances in the third and fourth quarters, scoring 22 of her 26 points. 
Jala Williams posted her first double-double of the season, scoring 19 points and dishing out 11 assists. Zoe Watts added 13 points. 
 
As a squad, UWA shot 50 percent (27-of-54) from the floor and 70 percent (14-of-20) from the foul line. 
 
The Tigers were down 36-27 at the half. UWA outscored Lee 18-9 in the third quarter to tie the game at 45-45. With 5:19 remaining in the fourth quarter, Dent hit a jumper, giving the Tigers a one-point advantage, 59-58. Williams scored the next five points off a three-pointer and two free throws at the 3:36 mark.
 
Dent made a pair of layups, and Williams added two free throws to extend the lead to 70-63 with 47 seconds left in the game. Lee made three foul shots, but the Tigers held onto the lead and closed out the game with a 71-66 win over the Flames.
 
Lee shot 45.5 percent from the field, 48.3 percent from the free throw line, and 60 percent from beyond the arc. Haley Schubert dropped 24 points for the Flames. 
 
The Tigers take on Shorter on Saturday. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. CT inside Winthrop-King Centre in Rome, Georgia.
