Tigers Drop Road Game to Valdosta State

VALDOSTA, Ga. - Four Tigers posted double figures in the 96-84 loss to Valdosta State Saturday evening at the Complex in Gulf South Conference action. 
 
The Tigers dropped to 13-3 overall and are now 9-3 in the conference. The Blazers improved to 12-6 and are 8-4 in the conference. 
 
Justin Allison led the Tigers with 18 points. Shardarrion Allen posted 15 points, grabbed six rebounds, and dished out five assists. Kuran Garner posted his first double-double of the season, scoring 14 points and 11 rebounds. Thaddeus Williams added 12 points. 
 
CJ Melton posted nine points and had nine rebounds. Terry Durham and Marvin Price both scored eight points. Price had sex rebounds, and Durham had five. 
 
VSU jumped to a 9-0 lead in the first three minutes of the game. CJ Melton drained a three to stop the run. With 15:34 remaining, the Blazers went on an 11-4 run to extend their lead to 20-7.
 
The Tigers went on a 13-0 run to cut the game down to a one-point advantage, 20-19, at the 9:56 mark. Marvin Price started the run off with a pair of layups. With nine minutes left, both teams went back and forth with a few lead changes, but the Tigers pulled ahead 49-48 at the half.
 
The Blazers scored the first basket out of the half, tying the game at 49-49. Valdosta State held the lead for the remainder of the game and came away with the 96-84 win over UWA.
 
VSU shot 58.3 percent from the field, 39.1 percent from beyond the arc, and 85 percent from the foul line. Caden Boser led the Blazers with 24 points and four rebounds. 
 
The Tigers return home on Wednesday to host Montevallo. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. inside Pruitt Hall Gymnasium.
