Tigers Take 59-52 Loss to Valdosta State

VALDOSTA, Ga. - West Alabama women's basketball team fell short to Valdosta State 59-52 in Gulf South Conference action Saturday evening at The Complex.
 
The Tigers dropped to 9-7 overall and are 6-6 in GSC play. The Blazers improved to 12-2 overall and are now 11-2 in the conference. 
 
Bria Dent led the Tigers with 15 points and 11 rebounds. This is Dent's 12th double-double of the season. Jala Williams posted 13 points, grabbed nine rebounds, and dished out five assists. Maryanne Logsdon was the other Tiger to score in double figures. Logsdon added 10 points.
 
UWA shot 40.8 percent (20-of-49) from the field, 31.6 percent (6-of19) from beyond the arc, and 100 percent (6-of-6) from the foul line. 
 
The Tigers were down 33-21 at the half. Zoe Watts had back-to-back baskets coming out of halftime to trim the lead to 33-26. The Tigers combined for 31 points in the third and fourth quarter, but the Blazers held onto the lead to come away with the 59-52 win. 
 
Three Blazers scored in double figures. Taylor Searcey posted 20 points and seven rebounds. Jirah Ards had 12 points and four assists. Tamiya Francis added 11 points and seven rebounds. 
 
VSU shot 45.8 percent from the floor, 29.4 percent from beyond the arc, and 66.7 percent from the free throw line. 
 
The Tigers are back in action on Wednesday to host Montevallo in GSC action. Tip-off is set for 5 p.m. inside Pruitt Hall Gymnasium.
