LIVINGSTON, Ala.- The University of West Alabama Men's Soccer team suffered its first GSC loss against the Warhawks of Auburn Montgomery 2-1 in full-time in Livingston at Tiger Stadium.
West Alabama struck first at the goal after The Warhawks committed four fouls in the first 10 minutes of play, with Killian Griffin scoring off an assist by Shane Pettit, setting the Tiger's up with an early 1-0 lead.
Auburn Montgomery answered back in the 29th minute, with a goal for Adam Hanson assisted by Lucas Wilson, tying the match 1-1 with 16 minutes to go in the 1st half.
Unfortunately for West Alabama, the tide turned in Auburn Montgomery's favor in the 2nd half. After Shane Pettit received his 2nd yellow card of the match in the 54th minute, The Tigers were left to finish the match shorthanded.
The Warhawks took full advantage, quickly taking the lead in the 56th minute, courtesy of Adam Hanson unassisted. Despite their best efforts, the Tigers couldn't overcome the deficit shorthanded, giving Auburn Montgomery the victory.
West Alabama falls to 5-2-2 overall and 3-1-1 in the GSC, while Auburn Montgomery improves to 5-0-4 and 4-0-1 in GSC play.
The Tigers will travel to Jackson, Tennessee this Friday, October 1st to take on The Bulldogs of Union. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
