HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - The University of West Alabama cross country teams ran one final regular season race on Saturday morning with the Chargers Cross Country Invitational, hosted by the University of Alabama in Huntsville.
Running at John Hunt Park, this will also be the site of the 2023 Gulf South Conference Cross Country Championships, scheduled to take place on Oct. 21.
The men's team recorded a 31st place finish, scoring 928 points. The women's team only carried two runners and did not score in the event.
In the men's 8K,
Gary Mata led UWA with a 26:34.1 time, good for 182nd out of over 430 runners.
Brian Easter crossed the finish line with a 26:57.9 score, followed by
Jentzen Moore (27:23.3),
Gabriel Laney (28:31.1),
Jayson Lynch (28:37.8),
Ryne Hopper (29:57.6) and
Dave Hubert (31:07.0) to round out the UWA scoring.
For Laney, his 8K time was a personal best for the freshman.
On the women's side,
Augusta Arnold led the Tigers with her 5K finish of 22:46.3, a new personal best.
Kayley Key missed her season-best by 10 seconds with a 24:24.6 result.

UWA will next gear up for the 2023 GSC Cross Country Championships on Oct. 21. The teams will make the return to Huntsville's John Hunt Park for the event.
