Tigers Claim 69-65 Road Win over West Georgia

CARROLLTON, Ga. – No. 20 West Alabama men's basketball team claimed a 69-65 road win over West Georgia in Gulf South Conference action Saturday afternoon inside The Coliseum.
 
The Tigers improved to 20-4 overall and are 16-4 in GSC play. The Wolves dropped to 16-7 overall and are 15-6 in the conference. UWA remains in the number one spot in the GSC standings.
 
Shardarrion Allen tied his season-high of 24 points. Allen also had six rebounds, four assists, and three steals. Thaddeus Williams posted 13 points, two rebounds, two steals, and two assists. 
 
Justin Allison scored 11 points, grabbed six rebounds, and dished out five assists. Terry Durham posted his eighth double-double of the season, dropping 10 points and pulling down 10 boards. 
 
The Tigers shot 45.8 percent (27-of-59) from the field, 31.6 percent (6-of-19) from beyond the arc, and 90 percent (9-of-10) from the free throw line. 
 
UWA got off to a fast start in the first half, taking a 10-3 lead at the 16:37 mark. UWG had two pairs of jumpers and a free throw to trim UWA's lead to 10-8 at the 14:33 mark. Tied 22-all with 6:54 remaining, the Tigers scored 14 points to close out the first half with a 36-32 lead over the Wolves. 
 
UWA made the first two baskets in the second half, extending the lead to 38-32. Both teams went back and forth, but UWA held the 50-43 advantage at the 12:42 mark. UWG went on a 7-0 run to tie the game at 50-50 with 10:56 remaining. With five minutes left in the game, the teams were tied at 60-60. Allen scored the last seven of UWA's nine points, pushing the lead to 69-65 to close out the game with a GSC win.
 
The Wolves shot 45.3 percent (24-of-53) from the floor, 20 percent (3-of-15) from the three-point range, and 87.5 percent (14-of-16) from the foul line. Zawdie Jackson led UWG with 17 points.
 
The Tigers head to Memphis, Tennessee, on Thursday to take on Christian Brothers. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. inside Canale Arena.
