Tigers Clinch GSC Championship Quarterfinal Home Game by Defeating CBU 63-46

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - West Alabama men's basketball team defeated Christian Brothers 63-49 in Gulf South Conference action Thursday evening inside Canale Arena. With the win, the Tigers clinched a GSC Championship Quarterfinal home game and remain in the number one spot in the GSC standings.
 
The Tigers improved to 21-4 overall and are 17-4 in GSC play. The Bucs dropped to 5-19 overall and are 5-16 in the conference.
 
Justin Allison and Thaddeus Williams led the Tigers with 15 points each. Allison also dished out six assists and had four rebounds. Kuran Garner posted 12 points and grabbed eight rebounds. CJ Melton added 10 points and nine rebounds. 
 
The Tigers shot 42.1 percent (27-of-57) from the field, 33.3 percent (6-of-18) from beyond the arc, and 90 percent (9-of-10) from the free throw line. 
 
The Tigers and the Bucs were tied 28-28 at the half. UWA outscored CBU 35-18 in the second half, with Terry Durham scoring the first bucket. With 14:29 remaining, the Tigers went on a 9-2 run to extend the lead to 40-36. 
 
UWA had another big run of 13-2 at the 8:45 mark, giving the Tigers a 54-42 lead. The Tigers closed out the game by scoring the last nine points and held off CBU to claim the 63-46 win. 
 
Aiden Ruthsat led the Bucs with 20 points in the matchup.
 
The Tigers head to Jackson, Tennessee, on Saturday to take on Union. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m. inside Fred DeLay Gymnasium.
