Tigers Take Down Valdosta State 82-72

LIVINGSTON, Ala. - West Alabama men's basketball team defeated Valdosta State 82-72 in Gulf South Conference action Thursday evening inside Pruitt Hall Gymnasium. 
 
The Tigers improved to 22-5 overall and are 18-5 in GSC play. The Blazers dropped to 18-11 overall and are 14-9 in the conference. 
 
Thaddeus Williams led the Tigers with 24 points and six rebounds. Shardarrion Allen posted 22 points and grabbed five rebounds. Terry Durham posted a double-double, scoring 12 points and pulling down 11 boards. 
 
Kuran Garner added 11 points and four rebounds. Justin Allison scored nine points. CJ Melton had four points and grabbed four rebounds. 
 
The Tigers shot 47 percent (31-of-66) from the field, 36.8 percent (7-of-19) from beyond the arc, and 86.7 percent (13-of-15) from the free throw line. 
 
UWA jumped to an 8-2 lead to start the game. With 7:35 remaining in the first half, the Tigers rallied and went on a 17-4 run to stretch the lead to 39-22. The Tigers held the 43-33 advantage at the half. 
 
UWA opened the second half with a 7-2 run to take the 50-35 lead. The Blazers responded with a 12-0 run with 13:34 remaining in the game. The Tigers rallied and went on a big 14-0 run to stretch the lead to 64-47. The remainder of the game was both teams going back and forth, but UWA held onto the lead and closed it out with an 82-72 win over VSU. 
 
Jay Rucker led the Blazers with 13 points in the matchup.
 
The Tigers are back in Pruitt Hall Gymnasium on Saturday. UWA tips off against West Florida at 4 p.m.
