Baseball Takes Game One Against Auburn Montgomery

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The West Alabama baseball team got the 6-2 win over Auburn Montgomery on Friday afternoon at Tartt Field behind a strong performance at the plate in game one of Gulf South Conference action.
 
UWA improved to 4-7 overall and 2-2 in GSC action. AUM fell to 4-10 overall and 2-2 in conference play.
 
Bryant Quimby (1-1) pitched 5.2 innings giving up one earned run, seven hits, and struck three of the 28 batters faced out. The Tigers had four other pitchers take the mound.
 
Josh Bower hit a home run in the third inning to open up the scoring for the game. Bower's home run brought in Jake Nemith and Michael Rich and put the Tigers up 3-0.
 
Bower recorded his second and final hit of the game in the fifth inning, bringing Nemith home again. John Mitchell hit a single in the same inning to bring Nick Thibodeau home before Mitchell scored an unearned run to end the Tigers scoring.
 
The Tiger bats finished with nine hits, six runs, and five runs batted in.
 
AUM's Kasey Clark led the Warhawks in hits, collecting three of the team's 11. Brody Syer and Clark had the only two runs for Auburn Montgomery. Jarren Wright and Zach Dew both had one run batted in for the Warhawks.
 
Clay Slagle (1-2) took the loss on the mound for AUM allowing seven hits, six runs, and four strikeouts. Five other pitchers took the mound for the Warhawks.
 
The two schools return to Tartt Field on Saturday for the doubleheader of the series with the first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
