Tigers Split Doubleheader to Take Series Against AUM

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The West Alabama baseball team and Auburn Montgomery split their doubleheader at Tartt Field on Saturday afternoon, with the Tigers dropping game one 16-3 before bouncing back to win game two 1-0 of the Gulf South Conference matchups.
 
With the series win, West Alabama moves to 5-8 overall and 3-3 in GSC competition. The Warhawks are now 5-11 overall and 3-3 in conference play.
 
Graham Holland (0-2) took the loss on the mound for the Tigers, going 0.1 innings and allowing six earned runs, three hits, and did not strike out any of the seven batters faced. The Tigers had a total of seven different pitchers take the mound in game one with Tyler Benson pitching 2.2 innings and striking out two batters.
 
Will Collins (1-1) picked up the win in game one for the Warhawks, pitching 1.2 innings and allowing no earned runs, one hit, and striking out four of the seven batters faced. Auburn Montgomery threw three other pitchers on the mound and collectively pitched 5.1 innings and allowed three runs on seven hits and four walks.
 
In game one, Jake Nemith four hits, scored once, and had one run batted in. Outfielder Kyle Vogler had two hits with one run in four at-bats. Michael Rich had one hit and one run. As a unit, the Tigers had eight hits, three runs, and two RBIs.
 
AUM's Jackson Ceman, Zach Dew, and Jarren Wright each had three hits. The trio had nine hits and drove in six of the 16 runs.
 
Jacob Smith (3-1) secured the win with an excellent performance on the mound in game two. Across seven innings pitched, Smith allowed only three hits, no runs, and two walks. He also struck out 11 of 26 batters faced.
 
Clay Weatherly (0-1) absorbed the loss for the Warhawks in game two, working 3.2 innings and allowing the game's sole run on two hits along with four strikeouts. Grant Hickman came in to pitch the final 2.1 innings and gave up one hit. Hickman picked up three strikeouts.
 
Nemith, Josh Bower, and Ryan Fletcher picked up the only three hits for the Tigers in the second game. Bower secured the only run of the game and Fletcher's single brought him home.
 
The Warhawks bats saw Dew, Kasey Clark, and Clayton Phillips record the only three hits. Brook Brannon and Clark were the only batters who walked.
 
The Tigers next game comes on Tuesday at the Hoover Met where they will take on Alabama Huntsville in a non-conference single game with the first pitch set for 1 p.m.
