Baseball Drops Second Game to Columbus State

COLUMBUS, Ga. – West Alabama baseball dropped game two of its series with Columbus State 11-1 Saturday afternoon at Burger King Stadium.
 
West Alabama picks up its first loss of the season, while Columbus State earns its first win.
 
West Alabama's pitcher Javian Stone took the loss and gave up four hits, three earned runs, and struck one batter out in his 3.2 innings pitched. Tyler Benson gave up no hits and no earned runs while striking out one batter out in his one inning pitched.
 
Noah Windhorst collected the win for the Cougars, pitching five complete innings while only allowing four hits and one run while striking out two of the 18 batters faced. Chandler Ring pitched for three innings and faced nine batters, allowing no hits or runs and striking out one batter.
 
Michael Rich scored the only run for the Tigers by hitting a solo home run in the second inning after Steven Minter did the same in the first for the Cougars.
 
Matthew McDade answered Rich's home run with one of his own in the third inning, collecting two of his eight total runs batted in.
 
The Tigers were unable to answer Columbus State's scoring, allowing the Cougars to claim the 11-1 win.
 
UWA had four hits and two runs, while Columbus State collected 14 hits and 11 runs.
 
The two teams return to Burger King Stadium at noon on Sunday to finish up the series.
