Tigers Set for Home Opener against Delta State

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The West Alabama baseball team will have its home opener against Delta State Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Tartt Field.

The Tigers (1-2) are coming off a difficult series against Columbus State. Junior left-hand pitcher Jacob Smith (1-0) leads the Tigers on the mound. The Calera, Alabama native has made one mound appearance for 5.2 innings pitched and five strikeouts. Laney Keeton has made one pitching appearance to pitch 3.1 innings with four strikeouts while holding batters to a .083 batting average.

Junior infielder Michael Rich leads West Alabama at the plate. Rich has started in all three games for a .400 batting average with four hits, one double and a homerun. He also had three RBIs and two runs. Kyle Vogler has added in three runs, two hits and three RBIs in his nine at-bats.

Delta State is 0-2 after dropping their first two games to Harding University. Kirkland Trahan leads the Statesmen at the plate with a .375 batting average, three hits (one double) and one run. Hammer Franks leads the team on the mound with seven strikeouts while holding opposing batters to a .125 batting average.
