Baseball Open Series Against MC with a Win

CLINTON, Miss. – The West Alabama baseball team got the 9-4 win over Mississippi College on the road Friday afternoon behind a strong performance at the bats in game one of a Gulf South Conference series.
 
UWA improved to 9-10 overall on the season and 6-4 in GSC action. Mississippi College fell to 6-14 overall and 2-5 in conference play.
 
Bryant Quimby (2-2) picked up his second win of the season on the mound with eight innings of work while allowing only nine hits and three runs along with striking out seven batters. Jackson Wynn's relief pitching saw him take the mound for one inning and give up one run, one hit, and one walk.
 
The Tigers had two home runs on the game, coming from Michael Rich and Jake Nemith. Rich finished with three runs scored, three hits and two RBIs in four at-bats. Nemith had three hits, one run, and five runs batted in.
 
Blake Vineyard contributed two runs on two hits in his five appearances at the plate. Catcher Ryan Fletcher added two hits and two RBIs in three at-bats.
 
Left-fielder Kyle Vogler had one hit and one run as did Houston Kitterman. Vineyard and Colden Peeples came away with one stolen base each.
 
The Choctaw bats were led by Caleb Reese who had two hits and two runs batted in. Bryce LaRocca added in two hits and Cody Crifasi had two hits and one run.
 
Gavin LeBlanc (0-4) was credited with the loss for allowing 11 hits and eight runs while suffering eight errors in 5.1 innings of work. Ervin Simmons had 3.2 innings of relief pitching and walked three batters while allowing one hit and one run.
 
The GSC series continues on Saturday with doubleheader action schedule to start at 1 p.m.
