Tigers Defeat Tuskegee 70-64 in the First Round of the NCAA Division II South Regional Tournament

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - West Alabama men's basketball team defeated Tuskegee 70-64 in the first round of the NCAA Division II South Regional Tournament Saturday evening inside Rick Case Arena. 
 
The Tigers improved to 27-5 overall. Tuskegee ended its season with a 20-9 overall record. 
 
Shardarrion Allen led the Tigers with 21 points and five rebounds. Kuran Garner posted 17 points. CJ Melton posted a double-double, scoring 10 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Thaddeus Williams also had 10 points. 
 
Terry Durham added nine points in the matchup. Justin Allison and Peter Turay each had one point.
 
The Tigers had 12 turnovers in the first half, trailing 37-27 at halftime. Tuskegee held the lead at the beginning of the second half until Allen made a three-pointer to take the 54-53 lead at the 7:19 mark. The Golden Tigers made four free throws to take the lead back. Both teams went back and forth.
 
With 3:36 remaining in the game, Williams made a three to take the final lead of the game, 61-60. Durham made a layup, and Williams made a jumper and free throw to gain the 66-60 advantage at the 2:32 mark. 
 
With 1:13 left in the game, Garner made a jumper. Williams and Allen made two free throws to close out the game with a 70-64 win. 
 
With the win, the Tigers take on the No. 3 Alabama Huntsville Sunday a 4 p.m. CT/5 p.m. ET at Rick Case Arena in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. 
 
Steve Dulley led the Golden Tigers with 15 points, three rebounds, three steals, and three assists.
