Early Offense Propels the Tigers over Delta State

CLEVELAND, Miss. – The West Alabama baseball team started off strong against Delta State and never looked back en route to a 7-3 non-conference win.
 
The Tigers improve to an even 11-11 record overall, while Delta State falls to 10-11 on the season.
 
Brent Turley (1-0) secured his first pitching win of the season by striking out two batters and allowing no hits or runs in 1.2 innings of work. Three other pitchers took the mound for the Tigers. Roe Ketchum started and pitched for 4.1 innings and allowed seven hits, three runs, and three walks while striking out four batters.
 
Centerfielder Colden Peeples led the West Alabama bats with a team-high two hits on the night to go with two runs. Five other Tigers recorded a hit in the game. 
 
Kyle Vogler hit a double to give him two runs batted in and two runs to go along with his one hit. First baseman Jake Nemith had one hit, one RBI, and two runs in his five at-bats.
 
Blake Vineyard, Nick Thibodeau, and Bryce Newman round out the list of Tigers to record a hit. Each of them added one run batted in.
 
Delta State's Duke Jordan (1-1) was dealt the loss on the game. Jordan allowed one hit, three runs, and two walks along with suffering three errors in 0.1 innings of work. The Statesmen had three relief pitchers for the game.
 
Delta State's bats were led by Kirkland Trahan who had three hits, two doubles, one run, and two RBIs in his four at-bats. Statesmen Shortstop Carson Clowers added one run and two hits in his four plate appearances.
 
The Tigers return to action at Tartt Field with a three-game series against Lee starting Friday with a single game set to start at 4 p.m. The first pitch for the Saturday doubleheader is scheduled for noon.
