Tigers Split Doubleheader with Lee

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The West Alabama baseball team's Gulf South Conference series against Lee is tied 1-1 after they split the doubleheader. Lee took game one 9-12 and West Alabama responded with a 3-1 win in game two.
 
West Alabama improved to 12-12 overall and 8-6 in conference action. Lee ended the night with a 15-11 record and now sits at 6-5 in GSC play.
 
Across the two games, the Tigers combined for 13 hits, 12 runs, two home runs, and two doubles.
 
Josh Bower led the Tiger bats in the first game with two hits, one home run and one double, two runs, and one RBI. Michael Rich added a home run of his own along with two runs and two RBIs.
 
Shortstop Bryce Newman had two hits, one run, and one RBI in his four at-bats. Kyle Vogler contributed two runs and one hit and Blake Vineyard rounded out the bats for West Alabama with one hit, one run, and run batted in.
 
UWA had five pitchers take the mound in game one of the doubleheader. Bryant Quimby started and allowed six runs and seven hits while walking three batters and striking out two batters across five innings of play. Brenton Thiels (1-1) was charged with the loss, allowing two runs, three hits, and two home runs in his one inning of work at the top of the ninth.
 
In game two of the doubleheader, Vineyard took charge of the bats with two hits and one run scored in his two at-bat. Centerfielder Colden Peeples followed suit with two hits in three at-bats. Rich had one hit and Ryan Fletcher added one hit and one RBI in two at-bats.
Jacob Smith (5-2) pitched all seven innings of the second game and secured his fifth win of the season. Smith allowed only one hit, one run, and five walks while striking out 12 out of 29 batters faced across 134 pitches thrown.
 
Right-fielder Brandon Daniels led the bats for Lee in game one, finishing with three runs, two hits, and two RBIs in his four appearances at the plate. Dylan Standifer contributed two hits, two runs, and three runs batted in. Six other Flames had one hit in the game for a total of 10. Game two was a different story as Lee only had one hit on the game from Standifer, who scored the only run.
 
Greyson Linderman (3-1) picked up the win for Lee in game one, allowing only three hits and two runs while striking out two batters. Hunter Lane picked up his fourth save of the season by allowing no hits, no runs, and no walks across one inning of work. Jack Nedrow (4-1) was charged with his first loss of the season in game two. Nedrow allowed five hits, three runs, and five walks in 4.2 innings on the mound.
 
The Tigers and the Flames finish up the GSC series Sunday with a single game. The first pitch is set for noon.
