Tigers Drop Non-Conference Game Against UAH in Extra Innings

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The West Alabama baseball team took a tough 5-3 loss against Alabama Huntsville, losing off a two-run triple in the top of the 10th inning.
 
West Alabama falls to an even 13-13 overall record, while UAH moves to 15-13 on the season.
 
Catcher Nick Thibodeau led the bats for the Tigers, finishing with three of the Tigers' nine hits, one double, and one RBI in five plate appearances. Bryce Newman had two hits, one run scored, and one run batted in.
 
Michael Rich added one run and one hit, and substitute first baseman Payton Graben scored the third and final run for the Tigers off a Newman single in the fifth inning.
 
Jake Nemith and Lane Domino each added in one hit for West Alabama.
 
UWA had six pitchers take the mound with Graham Holland starting. In his 4.2 innings on the mound, Holland allowed two runs, four hits, and two walks while striking out two batters. Relief pitcher Brenton Thiels (1-2) was credited with the loss. Thiels came in to pitch at the top of the 10th inning and struck out two of the six batters faced but allowed three hits and two runs.
 
The Chargers' bats were led by first baseman Jackson Lindsey who had two at-bats and scored two runs with two hits. Six other batters contributed one hit each for Alabama Huntsville.
 
Nine pitchers threw for UAH with Cole Loftis (1-2) picking up his first pitching win of the season. Loftis worked three innings and allowed no hits, runs, or walks in his time pitching.
 
West Alabama heads to Montevallo, Alabama this weekend to take on the Falcons in a three-game Gulf South Conference series. The single game on Friday is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. and the first pitch for the Saturday doubleheader is set for noon.
