Tigers Drop Game One on the Road Against Montevallo

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The West Alabama baseball team dropped a close game against Montevallo, losing game one of the Gulf South Conference series 5-4.
 
West Alabama drops to 13-14 overall with a 9-7 conference record, while Montevallo moves to 23-4 overall and 11-2 in GSC play.
 
The Tigers were led at the bats by Michael Rich who finished with two hits and one RBI in his five plate appearances. Second baseman Houston Kitterman had two runs scored, one hit, and one run batted in.
 
Kyle Vogler and center fielder Colden Peeples each had one run with one hit; Vogler added one run batted in. Jake Nemith, Blake Vineyard, and Ryan Fletcher each had one hit with Nemith hitting a double to round out the bats for West Alabama. 
 
Bryant Quimby made the start for the Tigers on the mound and pitched for 4.2 innings, allowing seven hits, four runs, and four walks. Relief pitcher Jordan Felps (1-2) was charged with the loss in his 2.1 innings of work. Felps allowed one hit, one run, and one walk. Gates Pee was the third and final pitcher to take the mound UWA and allowed two hits, no runs, and no walks while striking out one of four batters faced in his one inning on the mound.
 
The Falcons' bats were led by Luke Mitchell and Jake Smallwood who had two hits each. Six other batters finished with one hit each, while four Falcons had one hit and one run each.
 
Montevallo had five pitchers take the mound with relief pitcher Connor Phelan (2-0) picking up his second win of the season. Phelan pitched for 1.1 innings and allowed one hit and one walk.
The two teams finish out the series with a doubleheader set to start at noon.
