Baseball Travels to Mississippi College for GSC Series

CLINTON, Miss. – The West Alabama baseball team hits the road to take on Mississippi College in a Gulf South Conference series beginning Friday at 5 p.m. and Saturday being the doubleheader with the first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.

The Tigers enter the series with a 8-10 overall record and a 5-4 record in conference action, while the Choctaws are 6-13 overall and 2-4 in GSC play.

Michael Rich leads West Alabama with a batting average .380 of with 27 hits and two home runs. Rich's 27 hits are good for ninth in the conference. Jake Nemith has 23 hits with a conference-leading nine doubles.

Tigers outfielder Kyle Vogler has batted in a team high of 17 runs and has 15 hits. Vogler leads the team with four stolen bases. Josh Bower brings in 16 hits and 13 runs batted in.

On the mound, the Tigers are led by Jacob Smith (4-1) who has pitched for 34.2 innings this season and given up 27 hits, 12 runs, and struck out 49 batters. In GSC rankings, Smith is fourth in ERA with 1.82, eighth in opposing batting average with .203, third in innings pitched, first in batters struck out, and first in wins.

Mississippi College's bats are led by JT Vance who has a batting average of .355 and has 22 hits with five of them being home runs and five doubles. First baseman Caleb Reese has batted in 22 runs which puts him at fourth in the GSC.
