Baseball Drops Game One of GSC Series to West Florida

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The West Alabama baseball team could not get anything going at the plate, being out hit 14-5 in a 7-1 loss against West Florida.
 
The Tigers drop to 18-23 overall and 12-13 in Gulf South Conference play. West Florida moves to 27-14 overall with a 17-8 record in conference competition.
 
Blake Vineyard led the West Alabama bats, walking away with two hits and one RBI in four at-bats. Right fielder Jake Nemith added two hits and Michael Rich rounded out the Tigers' bats with one hit.
 
Bryant Quimby (2-3) was charged with the loss on the mound. Quimby pitched for six innings and allowed nine hits, two runs, and two walks while striking out four batters.
 
First baseman Darrien McDowell led the Argonaut bats with three runs scored and two hits in four plate appearances. Four other batters had two hits each in the game.
 
Dalton Neuschwander (8-0) picked up the win on the mound as the sole pitcher for the Argonauts. In nine innings of work, he allowed only five hits, one run, and three walks.
 
Both teams look to finish out the series with a doubleheader on Saturday set to begin at 1 p.m.
