Tigers Baseball Set to Play Final 2023 Regular Season Games at Tartt Field

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The West Alabama baseball team ends the regular season with a three-game Gulf South Conference series against Union at Tartt Field. A doubleheader is set to begin at 3 p.m. on Friday, followed by a single game on Saturday with the first pitch at noon.
 
West Alabama enters the weekend series 19-23 overall and 12-15 in GSC play. Union sits at 13-29 overall on the season and 8-19 in conference action.
 
Blake Vineyard leads West Alabama's bats with a .369 batting average on the season, adding 19 runs scored, 48 hits, and two home runs. Michael Rich is the Tigers' leader in home runs, hits, and runs batted in with nine home runs, 54 hits, and 35 RBIs.
 
Colden Peeples sits at a .296 batting average with 27 runs, 40 hits, and 19 runs batted in. Peeples remains as the team leader in stolen bases with 14. Jake Nemith leads the teams in at-bat appearances with 173 to go with his 49 hits, 25 runs, and team-leading 12 doubles.
 
Kyle Vogler leads West Alabama in runs scored with 40 to go along with his 35 hits and three home runs on the season. Bryce Newman has 28 hits and 14 runs, while Josh Bower adds 18 runs scored and 27 hits.
 
Jacob Smith (6-3) heads the mound for UWA with an ERA of 3.64, 66.2 innings pitched, an opposing batting average of .228, and a GSC-leading 98 strikeouts. Smith remains in the top 10 of GSC rankings as he's ninth in ERA, sixth in opposing batting average, seventh in innings pitched, and ninth in wins. Relief pitcher Brenton Thiels sits at fifth in the GSC in saves with four on the season.
 
Carson Chavies leads the bats for the Bulldogs with a .294 batting average, 40 hits, 26 runs scored, six doubles, and 15 runs batted in.
