LIVINGSTON, Ala. - The West Alabama baseball team swept the Union University Bulldogs in convincing fashion with 32 runs scored between the two games. The Tigers won game one 17-8 and game two 15-1.
The Tigers move to 21-25 overall and 14-15 in Gulf South Conference action. Union drops to 13-31 overall and 8-21 in conference play.
Blake Vineyard led West Alabama's bats in game one with three runs scored, four hits, two home runs, and six RBIs in four at-bats.
Colden Peeples had four runs and four hits and
Michael Rich added three runs, three hits, and two runs batted in.
Josh Bower finished with two runs, three hits, and three RBIs, while left fielder
Kyle Vogler finished with two runs, two hits, and three RBIs in four plate appearances.
In game two, Rich continued his great play with two hits, three runs scored, and two RBIs in two at-bats. Vogler had two runs, two hits, and two runs batted in, while
Nick Thibodeau finished with two runs scored, three hits, one home run, and four RBIs.
John Mitchell added a home run as his sole hit for the game and Nemith had one run, three hits, and two RBIs.
In game one,
Brenton Thiels (2-3) secured his second win on the mound this season. In five innings of work, Thiels allowed three hits, no runs, and one walk while striking out five batters. Starting pitcher
Jacob Smith secured his 100
thstrikeout of the season in the game.
Bryant Quimby (3-3) picked up the win in game two, pitching for six innings and allowing one run and four hits while striking out eight.
For Union, Blake Barrett led the bats in game one with two hits and two RBIs. Center fielder Trey Frierson finished with one run scored and two hits and four other Bulldogs added one hit each.
In the second game of the doubleheader, Britt Netterville led the way for Union with his one run scored, two hits, and one RBI in three plate appearances.
Grant Ross walked away with the loss on the mound for the Bulldogs in game one, pitching for 2.2 innings and allowing six hits and six runs.
Game two saw Sam Poindexter (3-6) charged with the loss by allowing eight runs, seven hits, and two walks in 1.2 innings of work.
The Tigers take on Union in the final game of the season to end the series tomorrow, starting at noon. Senior day recognition begins at 11:30 a.m.
